his purpose

He was a lost heart
the kind with a purpose
but on the wrong path
he didn’t see where he was going
his eyes covered with a film
the kind authorities call DUI.
that girl
(he wasn’t quite sure what her name was)
she was just that girl
she was particularly beautiful to him for some reason
well
the car accident ended tragically
often they do
charged with the guilt of her death
he landed himself in a locked up room for quite a while
there he took all the noise out of his ears
pulled it out slowly
but surely
and just as surely
he found his heart
hidden in the back corner of himself
it just needed a bit of warmth
and a good dusting off
he wrapped it in bandages
till he felt it responding
back to his breathing
the in and out that came with each new note of his song
and then
oh so carefully
he unraveled the bandageand let something new into his heart
he let in sunlight
that was the real warmth he had been needing
and his blood thrived throughout his veins
with that sunlight came forgiveness
and he let go of what he had done
forgave himself
which is all he had wanted
he kept learning that one thing led to another
and another led to this:
he found with his forgiveness he was able to love again
and find another extraordinarily beautiful girl
who helped him to fix himself
and he realized
as he sat one day
he had found his purpose
with that purpose he found
he was able to glue back together the fragmented pieces of his life
and begin anew
because he also realized
that maybe the circle of life
is just one big circle of forgiveness.

Just a hopeful piece about the fact that people can change.
