Escape My Fate
Some people run because they love it
 Because they have to
 I run because I’m running
 from something.
 Pushing
 Swerving
 Cutting up the ball
 And then
 you take off.
 Flying
So fast your feet don’t feel the ground
 It doesn’t feel like
 There’s anything
 Holding you down
 Sweat pouring
 Down my forehead
 My eyes start to rain
 But it blends together
 No one knows
 My sweat is tears.
 Shoving past
 I can’t feel her
 She is just an object
 In the way
 I will do anything
 To get past this obstacle
 Gathering speed
 Pass, kick, shoot
 All
 Blending together
 She is just a shape
 Not a person.
 I push past.
 The coach is talking
 But I hear nothing
 Besides the rush
 of wind
 through my hair
and the drumbeats of my feet
 striking the ground.
 I never
 stop moving.
This is part of the game.
 The game of escaping
 This is my escape
 If you never stop moving
 You never
 have to face
 what is chasing you.
 Whistle blows
 Yellow card
 He is yelling
Says I won’t play next game
 But I smile, because
 for a moment
 I have escaped.
