Fireflies
In the day
the sun is high,
the summer heat
fills the woods,
but at night
the sun is gone
and others
occupy.
They play their game
of hide and seek,
dim lights glow,
here, there.
One moment bright
by the next,
gone.
Chase them through
bushes,
Peek around
trees.
Catch one,
feel it,
crawling,
tickling your palm.
Move your fingers,
sneak a glance,
pray
wish
hope
plead.
Your hand
fills with light,
your smile
fills with joy.
Free the
firefly
into the night,
goodbye bug.
