The Drums of War
The drums beat silently in head,
Their pace; slow and steady.
Words swirl around me from today;
'Not good enough,' they scream.
'Failure,' they hiss.
'Not pretty enough,' they cry.
The words get louder, so do the drums of war.
The words quicken pace, so do the drums of war.
The words start to blur, but not the drums of war.
It all intensifies to suddenly stop, so do the drums of war.
I can't take it, no more,
I scream, they stop and stare; the people.
They do not understand,
They can't possibly understand.
I cover my head in shame.
They start towards me; staring eyes.
The words get louder, so do the drums of war.
The words quicken pace, so do the drums of war.
The words start to blur, but not the drums of war.
It all intensifies to suddenly stop, so do the drums of war.
I look down to see the blood,
They shake their heads; judging me.
It was too much, all too much.
I'm all alone, in shame and in pain.
