Wasted
I heard your voice and froze
I wanted to say, but stuttered
How could I describe
My wrenching world of agony,
Since we set a barrier between us?
A world overgrown with doubts watered by tears,
Overrun with monsters wreaking havoc,
Teeming with twisting vipers hissing lies,
Aching blocks the sun and threatens rain,
Desirous fires rage out of control
Razing the plains to nothing,
Distance blows me harshly
Even further away from you.
All this is so
But still doesn’t show
The manner in which I am tortured,
I hate my dreams,
My memories mock me,
I feel everything, taste everything, forced to relive,
Every moment with you,
I hear every word, every promise, every reassurance,
And know it was all untrue,
The irony is perfect,
A playwright’s masterpiece,
But, this Thespian’s tears are real,
And the tragedy’s flawless closing scene,
Was done without rehearsal.
