Strong Love
They met as children
Grew up together
Shared toys
Got into mud wars
Bickered
Sat together at lunch
They went to junior high together
He was mean because his friends were
She cried because she had a crush on him
They went separate ways
They attended the same high school
He was in her chemistry class
When he caused an explosion
And no one wanted to be his partner she volunteered
Study sessions turned into dates
He took her to homecomings and proms
She taught him how to slow dance
He taught her the rules of baseball
Things were great
Until college acceptance letters came
She was going north
He was staying in their home town
It seemed as though that was the end
But he knew what was in store
At her going away dinner
The dinner that she thought would be their last
He got down onto one knee
And recited their love afire to her
She wept
She smiled
When he was all but done he asked her something
He asked her if she would spend the rest of her life with him
She gleefully agreed
Years later they both had degrees from universities
They shared a soft green house on the beach front
They had three beautiful children together
And their loved never died
