I Am From The Garden

I am from fairy lamps,
From hydrangea and Vaseline.
I am from the garden,
From the shining lavender plant
Protected by bees.
I’m from collections
Of dolls & stuffed animals.
I’m from the religious
& the ill.
From storybooks and believing too much!
I am from brutal truth,
From weeds and shovels.
I am from solemn faces,
From “If you want something done,
Do it yourself.”
Childhood of iris and nightlight –
I am from the garden.
